fleXmatrix® kits enable easy and convenient preparation of matrix solutions for use in MALDI Imaging. Delivered in convenient portion sizes, fleXmatrix® simplifies and speeds up sample preparation. Different kits are available for the MALDI Imaging analysis of lipids, peptides, and proteins, and specialized matrix specifically for MALDI-2 post-ionization analysis.

fleXmatrix® is extra pure to remove potential sources of contamination. This simplifies laboratory workflows and maximizes uptime by removing potential sources of sample or instrument contamination. It comes pre-portioned for ease of preparation and fleXmatrix® dissolves rapidly for short sonication times.

fleXmatrix® is perfectly suited for use with IntelliSlides® and can be used with all of Bruker’s MALDI Imaging platforms. It offers reliable MALDI ionization and is easily removed from tissue samples after MALDI measurement for applications such as histological staining.

IntelliSlides®

Pre-inscribed IntelliSlides® streamline and simplify experimental set up processes in the lab and on all of Bruker’s MALDI Imaging instruments.

IntelliSlides® are a single-use consumable to avoid potential sources of contamination. They fulfill all requirements for reliable MALDI ionization. With all inscriptions on the conductive slide surface, permanent registration marks (teach marks) indicate where to place the sample for alignment within the MALDI instrument.

With a unique serial number and barcode to simplify sample tracking, IntelliSlides® are also compatible with histology and microscopy techniques.

Automated image acquisition is available on Bruker’s timsTOF fleX and rapifleX® platforms with flexImaging 5.1 and above.

Laser and ion source designed for MALDI tissue typing

During the image acquisition the sample stage moves continually to achieve high pixel rates. The unique smartbeam 3D laser fires at a repetition rate of up to 10 kHz.

The smartbeam 3D laser features a laser diameter of 5 µm, enabling MALDI Imaging of tissue at 20 µm spatial resolution. As illustrated in the video, the laser can move independently from the sample stage to scan the full area of each pixel. This produces truly square pixels which utilizes the total available sample area for maximum sensitivity and pixel-to-pixel reproducibility.

Technology in detail

The microflex® LRF can be operated in positive and negative ion mode using the linear or reflector detector.

The saturation free detector technology enables highest dynamic range and superior performance for high-mass detection.

Ion generation is achieved using a 60 Hz N2-Cartridge-Laser including variable power attenuator and UV optics.

The microScout ion source uses the exact dimensions of 1/4 microtiter plate with a medium area target plate (54 mm x 36 mm), allowing to stay compatible with MTP formats using pipetting robots.

The pumping system is fully integrated into the system and comprises a vacuum measurement and control unit as well as a 70 l/sec turbo-molecular pump and a diaphragm pump.

Featuring the smartbeam-II laser as integral part of MALDI instruments

At the heart of the autoflex® maX is our proprietary smartbeam-II solid state laser. With up to 2 kHz speed in MS mode and 200 Hz for MS/MS, time sensitive analysis �?such as would be needed for biopharmaceutical integrity screening �?can be made in minutes. The ionization efficiency of the smartbeam-II laser minimizes sample consumption and maximizes quality data output from each target position, even for complex samples. The ionization is gentle enough that tissue samples may be stained after analysis in MALDI MS Imaging workflows. Amenable to a variety of MALDI matrices, the smartbeam-II laser offers a long lifetime for a wide range of applications.

Driven by intuitive softwares, enabling seamless solutions
A key component of the value and walk-up approachability of the autoflex® maX is the Compass software suite, including flexControl for data acquisition and flexAnalysis data analysis. Whether user driven or automated, these softwares support the generation of high quality data quickly and easily. Further, they work in combination with application specific software packages including BioPharma Compass® for biopharmaceuticals, PolyTools for polymers, and SCiLS� class= Lab for MALDI Imaging.

Maintenance made easy
An analytical platform with this range of utility can become a workhorse in the lab, but ion source maintenance is made easy with the push button, IR-laser based self-cleaning of the Perpetual Ion Source. In less than 15 minutes, the autoflex® maX will be ready to resume its workload.
